Preparing to move? Here

is a list of must-have tools you should consider having.

Computer Transport

How to pack your computer for moving is an important question for your relocation.

General Storage

Before you begin packing, moving, or storing your belongings, it’s important to plan properly to avoid unnecessary damage or stress. At our company, we’re here to make the entire process smoother, safer, and more organized for you.

We always encourage our customers to consider where and how their items will be stored. For valuables that are sensitive to temperature or humidity—like furniture, electronics, clothing, documents, and artwork—a climate-controlled unit is your best option. For regular units, good ventilation and even a dehumidifier can help preserve your items.

When packing, keep things organized, label boxes clearly, and leave space to access your items later. Stacking smartly and loading carefully not only protects your belongings but also saves time when you need to retrieve them. Safety is a top priority—never store flammable, toxic, or perishable items.

We also recommend checking in on your unit from time to time to make sure everything remains in good condition. If you’re moving in or out, talk to our team about truck access, timing, and any special requirements.

Most importantly, you can trust that we are fully licensed, offer general insurance options, and are always ready to answer any questions. Whether you're storing short-term or long-term, we're committed to keeping your possessions safe and giving you peace of mind.

New Home Owners

Moving into a new home or building one from the ground up is an exciting journey—but it can come with a lot of unexpected challenges if you're not properly prepared. That’s why we’ve put together a practical guide to help you avoid costly surprises and make the transition as smooth as possible.

First, every new homeowner should have a basic toolkit ready before moving day. Essentials like screwdrivers, spanners, hammers, tape measures, levels, and a sturdy ladder are must-haves. These tools will come in handy not only during the move but also for setting up and settling into your new space. Whether it's adjusting appliances, hanging frames, or assembling furniture, having the right tools from day one makes all the difference.

Before finalizing your purchase or move-in, it's also important to thoroughly inspect the property. Check all taps, toilets, and water fittings for leaks or faulty seals. Look for signs of damp, cracks around windows and doors, and any water damage on walls or ceilings. Ensure that the geyser and plumbing are in good condition, and don’t hesitate to get a second opinion on the electrical system—your safety is worth the investment.

Make sure all built-in furniture is functional and free from rot, and confirm that your current appliances will fit in the new spaces. Bring a tape measure with you during viewings and don’t be afraid to request access to areas that might be hidden or covered up. Mistakes or oversights here can lead to unnecessary stress and expenses after you’ve already moved in.

It’s also vital to check that the home is legally within your property boundary according to municipal records. While rare, boundary disputes can become expensive and complicated if overlooked.

When it comes to utilities and services, plan ahead. Contact your internet, TV, and electricity providers well in advance to arrange smooth transfers. Always get names and written confirmation for dates and switchovers. Ensure any outstanding bills from the previous owner or tenant are settled to avoid service delays.

Finally, make sure you receive all relevant documentation from the previous owner at the time of transfer. That includes pre-paid electricity cards, meter numbers, and anything else needed to run your household without interruption. With careful planning and a little preparation, moving into your new home doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

Computer Transport

Your computer holds valuable files, photos, passwords, and often, important business or personal data—so when it comes to moving, it’s crucial to pack and transport it with care. Whether it’s a desktop or a laptop, proper handling ensures it arrives safely and in working condition.

Before you begin, make sure all your files are backed up to an external hard drive. Keep that drive with you during the move—don’t pack it in the same box as the computer. Next, remove all CDs, USB sticks, or accessories connected to the machine, and take a photo of the cable setup if needed to help with reassembly later. Disconnect all cables gently, tie them neatly, and wrap them in bubble wrap before placing them in a separate bag.

Use a strong, sturdy box—preferably the type used for fragile kitchenware—and line the bottom with crumpled packing paper for cushioning. Wrap the computer or laptop in bubble wrap and place it on its side in the box. Fill any empty space with more crumpled paper to prevent shifting. For desktops, place the monitor upright on top of the tower, wrapped securely in bubble wrap with padding both front and back.

Accessories like your keyboard and mouse should also be wrapped in packing paper, with cables tied and secured. Layer them carefully in the box with additional paper between each item. Make sure the box is tightly packed and stable, with no room for movement.

Printers, scanners, and other devices can be packed using the same method—plenty of bubble wrap and sturdy boxes are key. When loading the moving truck, keep your computer away from anything sharp or heavy that might shift during transport. If you’re not sure how to pack everything safely or simply don’t have the time, our team at Bolt Removals can take care of it for you.

Your computer is too important to risk—let us help you move it safely, so you can plug it back in and pick up right where you left off
